Genus Philetor

Thomas, 1902

Brown bats

This genus is externally similar to Noctula (Nno5) with a relatively short ear and the fifth finger also greatly shortened. The skull has conspicuous peg-like projections over the anterior edge of orbit (Fig. 233), but is without the flattening characteristic of Tylonycteris (Fig. 191). The dentition (Fig. 235) is as in Eptesicus (Fig. 175) except that the first upper incisor (I2) is relatively larger and bicuspidate. The upper canine has a large secondary cusp; the first premolar (PM4) is crowded between the canine and M1 .
Dental formula:   i - 2 3   c 1   pm - - - 4   m 1 2 3 = 32.
