Broad-tooth Fruit bats
This genus is endemic to India and is monospecific. It is a medium-sized fruit bat of the Cynopterine section of the subfamily Pteropodinae as defined by Andersen, 1912. There is no external tail (BW3). There are fifteen palatal ridges. The rostrum is rather elongated and narrow in comparison to Cynopterus (RL12); it resembles that of Thoopterus from Indonesia, although a little less massive and deep. The palate is very long, especially the postdental portion which is subequal to that of Aethalops from south-east Asia. There are no post-orbital foramina. There is only one pair of upper and lower incisors (Fig. 28). The cheekteeth are broad, especially those of the mandible. The third lower premolar (pm4) and m1 have a low central cusp.
Dental formula: i - 2 - c 1 pm - 2 3 4 m 1 - - = 26.
- 2 - 1 - 2 3 4 12 -
