Rhinolophus mitratus

Blyth, 1844

Mitred Horseshoe bat

External characters (Table 41)
According to Sinha, 1973, "the ears of the female holotype are large. The horseshoe is broad; the internarial lobes (lappets) abnormally expanded upwards forming a deep cavity; the vertical part of sella (inferior surface of sella) short and rounded and the base is not expanded as in R. trifoliatus . The lower lip has a single mental groove. The fur is brown dorsally and light brown ventrally. The forearm measures 57.1 mm". Sinha, 1973 suggested that the noseleaf is more similar to that of R. pearsonii than that of R. trifoliatus .

Cranial and dental characters
The skull of the holotype is damaged. According to Sinha, 1973, no cranial or dental measurements can be taken.

Taxonomic remarks
Anderson, 1881 reported R. mitratus from Darjeeling on the basis of a specimen (105c) in the Indian Museum, Calcutta (ZSI). According to Sinha, 1973 this specimen is however an example of R. pearsonii , subsequently recorded from Pashok, Darjeeling district by Wroughton, 1916ciii.
